Frequently Asked Questions:

Where is your studio located?

Dennis’ studio is a free standing building behind our home in the Grand Lake district of Oakland.

What are your studio hours ?

We are open by appointment only. Dennis has available appointments during the workweek, evenings and most weekends.

How soon can we have a sitting after we call for an appointment?

We can usually make an appointment within one week from the time of your call.

What should we wear?

Families wear a range of clothing from casual to very formal. It is your decision how dressed up or casual you would like to be for your portrait, but it is important that all members of the group are dressed as though they are attending the same event. If you are planning on selecting Black & White photos: some clothing suggestions that photographs well in black and white are denim, sweaters with texture, plaids and prints. Remember that nice medium tone colors will be gray in your photo. Please avoid men’s white dress shirts for their lack of texture and detail. If you want full length photos of your group please make sure that everyone has shoes that they are comfortable being photographed in.

How long will our sitting last?

Most sittings last between one half hour and one full hour, depending on if you have additional group or individual portraits taken.

How large a group can you photograph?

Dennis’ studio can accommodate large family groups, however, there will be an additional charge for groups over eight as additional time is required to insure a choice of images. For large groups, please call and speak to Dennis about your group.

What is an additional sitting?

An example of an an additional sitting is a photo of just the children after a family portrait has been taken, or individual photos of the family members.

Can we bring our pet?

Dennis will photograph well behaved pets with their families providing the pets are able to tolerate the situation. If it becomes too difficult to take good photos with the pets present, we will ask that the pets be eliminated from the sitting.

When do we pay for our sitting?

Sitting fees are due no later than the day of the sitting. If you have not mailed a check to us to reserve your sitting time, please bring a check to the sitting.

What if someone is ill the day we have planned our photo sitting?

Please call as soon as you realize that you cannot keep your appointment. We will do our best to accommodate unforeseen events that may cause you to reschedule your sitting.

How soon can we have our final prints?

Photo proofs will be mailed to you within one week from your sitting. Print orders are typically delivered within three weeks of receipt, however, during the months of October through December, our studio is extremely busy and print orders may take longer. We make every effort to work with clients to deliver final prints to meet their delivery needs.

We had a sitting a number of years ago, can we still order prints?

Dennis retains all negatives and image files indefinitely, however, there is an additional 25% charge for orders received after one year from the time of the sitting.

Can we re-order prints?

You can always order additional prints, however, re-order prices are slightly higher than print prices available at the time of the original order.

Is it possible to obtain a digital file from our photo session?

Our business is primarily print based. However, we can provide one small image file for quantity reproduction such as a holiday card. If your order is over $100 and the file required is also one that has been printed, there is no cost.
