Portrait of Dennis

Dennis Geaney (pronounced Gain-ey) grew up in Los Angeles and began playing guitar at age 12. One year later, Dennis was playing in his first band and began a lifelong love of being in the middle of groovy rhythm sections. In 1966, Dennis was a founding member of Alexander’s Timeless Bloozband, a band that achieved some success including a recording contract with UNI records. Alexander’s played on the same bill with many 60’s era headliners like The GratefulDead, Buffalo Springfield, Canned Heat, Albert King , Jackie Wilson, Taj Mahal and the Chamber Brothers.

Portrait of Dennis

In 1969, Dennis was the rhythm guitarist for the Ike and Tina Turner Revue. Ike Turner featured Dennis with the Kings of Rhythm band and was known to refer to him as the “funkiest white boy in L.A.” Among Dennis’ more memorable gigs with the Revue was a stint in Las Vegas where Elvis Presley was in the main showroom.

Moving to the Bay Area in the early seventies, Dennis worked with many R&B artists and fusion groups including Gay Brewer and Jump Street. In 1977, Dennis took a 5 year break from gigging to pursue his career in photography. In 1985 Dennis took over the guitar duties for the Scott Bros., a popular Bay Area party band. Currently, Dennis continues to work as freelance guitarist with a variety of groups and artists. These include JenDen, a duo with talented pianist Jennifer Clevinger, Bernard Anderson and the Old School Band, The Picture Perfect Band, and Bobby Webb and the Smooth Blues Band.

The DG Project by Oakland guitarist, Dennis Geaney was released in January 2008. Please note that the CD contains a Digital Booklet file on board. This file can be accessed by placing the CD in any computer and clicking on the PDF file. Here you will find information about the project including credits, lyrics and photos.

The DG Project is the brainchild of co-producers Dennis Geaney and Tony Stead. An in-demand performer, studio musician and creative arranger, producer Tony Stead contributes in countless artistic ways to the DG Project, especially with his fabulous B-3 organ playing.

This recording is an attempt to blend Dennis' favorite types of music; funk, jazz, standards, gospel and blues into one cohesive style. The mostly original compositions and carefully chosen musicians both work towards this end. Along with the signature sound of Dennis' guitar and Tony's organ, the DG Project features Glenn Walters and Kami Herron Chiles on vocals and Bernard Anderson on tenor sax.
